President Sheryl Tankersley Department of Parks and Recreation |
Sheryl Tankersley is in her fourth year serving on the SiOC Board. She is an information officer I supervisor. Sheryl served five years as an IO at the Governor's Office of Emergency Services where she fielded media calls on the 9-11-01 terrorist attack, the 2003 Fire Siege, San Simeon Earthquake, the South Asian Sumatra Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. She spent six years reporting for the Vallejo Times-Herald where she was a columnist and covered the courts, county government and business. She holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in Government from CSU Sacramento. Sheryl lives in Dixon. |

Vice President Fran Clader Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board |
SiOC Board Vice President Fran Clader is the Public Affairs Officer at VCGCB. Fran also has a second career in the U.S. Army Reserve where she currently holds the rank of major. She entered state service in 1998 as an information officer for the then-Governor's Office of Criminal Justice Planning. Before embarking on her state career, Fran worked as a reporter, copy editor and city editor at The Reporter newspaper in Vacaville. She was also an editorial assistant at the San Francisco Examiner. She has a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from San Francisco State University. Fran lives in Sacramento. |

Secretary Steven Dakota Department of Consumer Affairs |
Steve Dakota is an information officer at the Department of Consumer Affairs. Wanting to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, he volunteered as a public information officer for 12 days with FEMA in Texas. Steve has worked for the State since April 1988, and served as public affairs officer at the California Department of Veterans Affairs during three administrations: Deukmejian, Wilson, and Davis. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in communication studies, with an emphasis in broadcasting and an undeclared minor in music, from CSU Sacramento. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Defense Information School. He and his cats, Mickey and Harley, reside in Carmichael where Steve occasionally sings, strums guitar, and plays keyboards. |

Program Chair Dimitri Stanich California Air Resources Board |
Dimitri graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications and began his work as an Information Officer at ARB in 2000. There, he has worked on outreach campaigns for several high profile issues. Prior to that Dimitri was a freelance photographer and graphic designer who did publicity and documentation of events for theater and dance troupes in the Sacramento area. |

Awards Co-Chair Dana Michaels Department of Fish and Game Office of Spill Prevention and Response |
Dana Michaels has been the lead IO for the Dept. of Fish and Game's pollution division, OSPR, since 1995. She spent the previous 24 years in radio and television, working as a newscaster, writer, reporter, news director, disc jockey, program director, and broadcast operations technician. She's a native of the San Francisco Bay Area who loves animals, plays guitar and drums, and swims a lot. |

Awards Co-Chair Adrian Woodfork Department of Food and Agriculture |
Adrian Woodfork is an Information Officer at CDFA. He is also a licensed to judge dog shows by the American Kennel Club. Most of his life Adrian has worked in the broadcast industry. In 1988, after an exciting stint in television news, Adrian started became a free-lance television producer, actor and commercial model. He worked for national TV magazine shows including "America's Most Wanted," "Inside Edition," and "American Journal." He has also appeared in national commercials for Toyota, Hertz, and American Express. Adrian and wife Linda reside in Sacramento with two children Jena and Julian, and best friends Jada (Doberman) and Zoey (Dachshund). |

Russ Heimerich is an Information Officer II and is currently the Chief of the Office of Public Affairs at DCA, where he began his state service more than eight years ago. Before taking his current job in May, he served more than a year at the Governor's California Performance Review. Prior to that, Russ spent more than four years at the then Department of Corrections. He has also been the Community and Government Relations Manager for Comcast in Sacramento and for more than nine years was the local host of "Morning Edition" on what is now known as Capitol Public Radio. Russ holds a bachelors degree in English from the University of Illinois and a masters in Journalism from Ohio State University. | |

Liz Kanter has been an information officer for the State Water Board since 2001. She was an information officer at the Dept. of Consumer Affairs and was a research writer for the Dept. of Water Resources. Before her state service career in 1995, she was a reporter for daily newspapers in California and Texas and a researcher for Time Magazine and the Associated Press. She lives in Sacramento and am the mother of two labrador retrievers. I am also a volunteer for the SPCA and am an officer with SEIU local 1000. | |
| Scholarship Chair Stephen Green Office of the Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante |
Stephen Green spent 30 years as a newspaper editor and reporter, and also served on the communications staff of U.S. Senator Alan Cranston in Washington, D.C. During the 1990s, he was editor of three editions of the California Political Almanac, a 500-page source book on state government and politics. In 1999, Gov. Gray Davis appointed Green to the post of Assistant Secretary at the Youth & Adult Correctional Agency. He had charge of the penal system's communications in addition to stints as Deputy Secretary for Legislation and Deputy Secretary for Information Technology. Currently, he serves as Press Secretary for Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante. Green holds bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from the University of Oregon, and he has been a Fellow at the Washington Journalism Center in Washington, D.C. | |

Immediate Past President Chris Davis State Water Resources Control Board |
Chris has been an IO for five years, serving at Consumer Affairs, the Energy Commission and now the State Water Board. Prior to state service, Chris' 23-year media career brought him to KZAP, Sacramento, following stops in Reno and San Diego. While KZAP news director, he won a dozen broadcast news awards and served as president of both the Sacramento Valley Broadcasters Association and Capital Radio-Television News Directors Association. While news bureau chief at Metro Networks, which served 17 radio stations, Chris got his Screen Actors Guild card for playing a role in "Ruby Ridge - An American Tragedy." Chris joined the SiOC board in 2003 and served as president in 2004. Chris' favorite things include cooking, golf and rock 'n roll. |
